Cars

Guidelines

Car Eligibility

Only cars in a finished state will be accepted as feature cars on Turbophile. This means no ongoing projects (where the car is not running and on the road in the meantime), no 'planned' projects, no mate's cars, and no cars in pieces accompanied by hundreds of photos of parts yet to be fitted.

Car Type and Car Quality

Turbophile feature cars should be preferably Datsuns or older Nissans. Stock standard, original examples of classic Japanese cars are acceptable, but not rusty 'dungers' with a only a few mods. Engine conversions are welcomed but not essential as 'old school' performance cars are also encouraged.

Image Quality

Try to attach a minimum of 5 images of various aspects of the car, i.e. outside front, rear, side, interior, engine bay etc. If there are any special features on the car, close-ups are appreciated too.

You do not need to be a professional photographer. If you follow the guidelines below and check your images do not fall into the first category before submitting your car, all should go smoothly. Please note that to maintain the integrity of the website, feature car submissions without good images will be rejected until suitable images can be supplied.

What will not be accepted:

  • photos taken with a camera phone
  • badly scanned photographs
  • photos exhibiting heavy and visible JPEG compression [view example]
  • images with dimensions of less than 500 pixels wide [view example]
  • images in GIF format [view example]
  • out-of-focus images (except where done for artistic effect using depth of field) [view example]
  • images that are too dark (under-exposed) [view example]
  • images that are too bright (over-exposed)
    [view example]
  • images that exhibit a lot of contrast (areas of deep shadow as well as very bright highlights) [view example]
  • photos taken in confined, badly lit spaces like garages, or at night [view example]
  • badly framed images where the car is not the main focal point [view example]
  • images with logos or watermarks [view example]

What will be accepted:

  • photos taken with a reasonable quality digital camera
  • images in JPEG format
  • images with dimentions of at least 500 pixels wide, preferably 1024 pixels wide
  • images in good sharp focus
  • images that are correctly exposed (not to bright and not too dark, and not too much contrast)
  • photos taken in a clear, open, well lit area during the daytime
  • close up images of relevant important parts of the car

Form Submission

If you are interested in having your car featured please fill out the following form. All fields must be filled out for the car to be considered. If a particular field does not apply to your car, simply put 'n/a' in the box. Make sure you create a full listing of all modifications, parts and aspects of your car - for instance - instead of just putting 'gauges', write what kind of gauge, what size, where it is mounted etc. A good example of this is Raymond's CA18DET Datsun 1200 Coupe feature car.

Important note: Please use full names, not abbreviations, of parts and components. Use capitalisation where appropriate, for example, at the start of words for brand names, workshops, car makes and models and manufacturers (example: 'Tim and Mark's Custom Shop' not 'tim and marks custom shop' or 'TIM AND MARKS CUSTOM SHOP'). Do NOT fill out this form using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
